Co-author of the Woman’s Lacrosse version of the Dojo Decision, Sammy Jo Tracy is a two-time national champion and All-American lacrosse player from the University of North Carolina (UNC). A native of Bedford, New York, Tracy has played professional lacrosse since graduating from UNC, including three years with the WPLL Pride in the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League and the past four summers with Athletes Unlimited. Her coaching career includes serving as an assistant coach at Arizona State and Harvard, as well as the National Director of Team 91 Colorado Club Lacrosse, one of the top youth development programs in the state. Now residing in Virginia Beach, Tracy dedicates her time to mentoring young athletes.
During her time as a student-athlete at UNC, Tracy made her mark as one of the best draw control specialists in program history. She set school records for most draw controls in a career (327), in a single season (145), and in an individual game (14). Tracy played a key role in leading the Tar Heels to two national championships, scoring the game-winning goal in sudden-death triple overtime as a freshman to secure UNC’s first title in 2013. After recovering from an injury that sidelined her for the 2014 season, she returned to the field in 2015 and put up 38 goals, five assists, and 44 draw controls.
Through her work with youth programs and clinics, she continues to inspire and guide the next generation of lacrosse players.
