Our story

Where the idea came from.

Coach McDermott wrote The Dojo Decision because the mental side of the game had nowhere to live — not in a playbook, not in a group text, nowhere a team actually opened every day. The app is that idea built out: the mental game, living in the app your team already has open.

Coach McDermott with The Dojo Decision

No mental performance program is better than another

The one that works is the one whose voice actually resonates with your team. Two ways to put a real voice behind the mental game your team plays:

Chapter resources

Every chapter of the book has its lessons, videos and exercises — they live inside the app, where a team works through them together and a coach can see who has.

Separately, his coaching practice

Not part of the book or the app — work with Coach McDermott directly, for your team or for you.

Ways to work together

This is my coaching practice — separate from the app, which any team can use without ever hiring me. Every one of these is open to any athlete, family or program.

1-on-1 coaching

An athlete, usually one heading to college

Everyone was the best player on their high school team. What separates the athletes who play from the athletes who watch is preparation — the body, the mind and the habits, trained on purpose. We build that plan together and I hold you to it.

  • Your goals, written down and worked
  • The habits underneath them
  • Recruiting guidance (general, never school-specific)

Mentoring

An athlete, a family or a coach

Hands-on guidance through the Dojo Decision course with someone in your corner — accountability, a regular call and a person who notices when you go quiet. Coaches take this too, for the mental side of their own leadership.

  • Goals and habit accountability
  • Training tips
  • A standing call

Team building

A whole team, with its coaching staff

Talented, hardworking players who are not yet one thing. We work on the culture underneath the roster — how they talk to each other, what they hold each other to, and what happens when it gets hard.

Keynote speaking

A team, a club, a banquet or a staff

The Black Belt mentality, in a room, in an hour: what separates the good from the people who keep getting better, and the decision each athlete has to make for themselves.

Retreats

A team or a program, off site

A few days to build the bond and the mental edge at once — three formats, shaped around what your group actually needs.

If he can’t work with your athlete, he’ll find who can

Coach McDermott coaches in college, so NCAA rules sometimes mean he can’t work with a particular athlete himself. When that happens he pairs you with a college or pro player who has accomplished what your athlete is trying to accomplish.

Not sure which one fits?

Twenty minutes, no pitch — we work out whether any of this is right for your athlete or your team, and I will say so if it is not.
